Stone Talk: Garnet
The January birthstone - although commonly known to be red, Garnet is found in a variety of colours and chemical forumlas. In the Middle Ages Europe, Garnet was used to enhance truth, faith and constancy, and to dispel melancholy.
The hardness of the Garnet stone is aprroximately 6.5 - 8.5 with Diamond being the hardest at 10. Garnet stones come in Red (most common), Green, Yellow, Orange, Brown, Pink, Purple, Grey and Black.
It is believed to reduce body toxins, purify vital organs and blood. Emotionally, it is a protective and calming influence that is thought to heal depression and bring courage and hope into critical situations. The Garnet stone is definitely a stone to have if you're going through a low point or going through a hard time.
